Chances are, you’ve heard by now that Ikea discontinued its popular Akurum kitchen line in 2015. The new system, Sektion, is amazing, and we’ll sell doors for nearly four-thousand projects this year alone. The good new is: Semihandmade makes doors that fit the Akurum system, too!
WHY UPGRADE MY AKURUM KITCHEN?
We think Sektion is even better than Akurum - more options, smarter sizing, better hardware.
But maybe you don’t care. Or maybe you only have a four-or six- or ten-year-old kitchen and just want a refresh. Or you don’t have the budget for a full reno. Or the patience for a full reno. Or you have some warranty issues there’s a chance Ikea might cover with that nifty twenty-five-year warranty.

HOW DO I START?
The first thing you need to do is determine exactly how old your Akurum kitchen is. It’s true there have been some hardware changes over the years, but generally Semihandmade can replace doors for Ikea kitchen cabinets purchased as far back as 2003. DO WE MAKE REPLACEMENT AKURUM DOORS?
We don’t. Nobody does. Ikea’s door styles are totally their own, but we’re confident you’ll find something you like in our fifty-plus choices for Akurum, Sektion, Besta and Godmorgon cabinets in everything from paint-them-yourself DIY Shaker to colored Supermattes and real wood veneers. CAN I MIX SYSTEMS?
Definitely. Two of the ways the systems differ is cabinet/door sizing and upgraded hardware, so Sektion doors won’t fit on Akurum cabinets. That doesn’t mean customers don’t add Sektion cabinets to an existing Akurum kitchen all the time, they do - islands, pantries, laundry rooms and work-stations.
WHAT IF I HAVE A WARRANTY ISSUE?
For that, you’ve got to go straight to Ikea. Yeah, they’ve got a great warranty, but your claim really does depend on specifics and circumstances.
